Can you convert a WiFi signal to a LAN port

The term you’re looking for is ‘wireless bridge.’ You can set one up using a mini PC or a single board computer like a Raspberry Pi. Just make sure to configure the default route to use the WiFi connection.

A travel router with an Ethernet port might be what you need. These devices connect to an existing WiFi SSID for WAN and then provide a private WiFi SSID for your devices, plus they often have Ethernet jacks too.

Do you have a specific model you’d recommend? I’m currently in the US but will be moving to the EU soon.

Check out GL-iNet’s routers like the Flint model. They come with OpenWRT and are easy to set up as a repeater. When moving continents, you might only need a new power adapter. Here’s more info: Repeater - GL.iNet Router Docs 4

@Cory
I was just looking at that brand. Does the Flint model include travel router capabilities like the Beryl AX? And do these models support MU-MIMO and OFDMA?

The Flint does include Repeater mode. As for MU-MIMO/OFDMA, check their product pages for specific features.

@Cory
Thanks for the details!

A wireless bridge might be the answer. Many routers already have this feature. You can connect it to another router to set up a secure, private network. Just be aware that the building management might notice and restrict your access.

Why would you move into a place with a shared internet connection? That alone would be a dealbreaker for me. If they don’t even have separate internet infrastructure for each apartment, I’d question the quality of the rest of the building’s amenities.

@Jackson
I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn’t consider renting a place with a shared internet connection.

@Jackson
Given my circumstances—needing to be in a specific area, on a limited budget, with a pet, on a short lease during the off-season—my options were very limited. I’m just happy to find a place that ticks most of my boxes except this one.
