Ohio no longer requires you to retreat before using force. But driving away is still easier than a close-range fight.
And easier than dealing with legal issues later, too.

That’s what my CCW class said too—only use lethal force if you have no other choice. If they’re pulling you out and you can’t drive off, it’s a different story.

Does Ohio law apply in Texas though?

Isn’t it all just one big rusty belt?
No, it’s the Bible Belt down here. Bless your heart!
If it’s a carjacking, I’d say you’re probably justified. Most people would agree that being dragged out of your car is a real threat to your life.
Is this happening right now? If so, maybe ask the person to wait while you figure out the law.

Switching to turn-based mode…

If you just say no, they legally can’t carjack you… right?
This is a broad question and really needs a lawyer’s input. Laws vary too much for a simple yes or no.
I’m not a lawyer, but if you’re going to shoot someone, it should only be because your life is truly at risk and there’s no other option. Legal battles are expensive.
Most people who rely on legal advice from forums end up in trouble.
If someone is violently trying to pull you from your car, that’s a serious threat. But ask yourself if shooting them is your only option. Can you just drive away instead?
If you do end up shooting someone, don’t say anything without a lawyer.
