Hue is expensive but extremely reliable. I’ve been using the same starter kit for over a decade without issues.
After investing over $1000 in LifX and facing continuous issues, I switched to Hue. Despite its lower brightness, its reliability and seamless HomeKit integration are unmatched.
Hue still sets the standard for stability in smart lighting.
Philips Hue is my recommendation.
I’ve filled my home with Wiz products. They work well and integrate seamlessly with Home Assistant.
The choice depends on your specific needs. All major brands offering Matter support can be good options depending on your requirements.

I’m considering bulbs and ceiling can lights, with potential for backlighting in the future. Any thoughts?

How many devices are you planning to connect? That might influence the best choice for you.
While Hue claims Matter support, it’s limited to their bridge, not the bulbs themselves, which doesn’t fully leverage the benefits of Matter or Thread networks.
